We were definitely thinking of a soap to clean gritty and sometimes smelly hands when we came up with the last one. I've heard about the lick-test for soap. I'll see if my wife wants to give it a try! ;-)

For anyone interested in making their own lye, Lynn over at Wood Ridge has a great tutorial on making your own lye:

Thanks for stopping by!

I'm a soap maker as well, and one of my first soaps was a tangerine fragrance with bits of coffee. It was my solution to hands that smelled of onion and garlic after handling them. A quick tip to speed up your process of soap making - give your soap a lick after a few days to 1 week. If it makes your tongue tingle, it needs to keep maturing and know that the saponification process is incomplete. If you don't get a tongue zap, you can start using it. I start using most of my cold process soap (superfat = 7%) within a week with no ill effects.

That is so cool. I love the use of coffee grounds as an exfoliating texture within the bars. Brilliant. :)

How wonderful...you have suds! I'm really so impressed. If we didn't have so much to do outside this spring, I'd love to try making some soap of our own. Maybe a winter project after the harvest. Your coffee citrus soap sounds wonderful. Wouldn't have thought to use coffee grounds as an exfoliant, and I love soaps and candles that are citrus scented. The possibilities though are endless! How fun!
