It's just hard for me to say no! I am growing quite a few red slicers for testing. If they make the grade here, they might wind up in a food pantry garden somewhere else. We grow Better Boy, Early Girl, Celebrity and Whopper for that purpose now. Champion, Champion 2, Ramapo, Jetsonic and Jetsetter are test candidates I'm trying out.

I roasted some of our Anaheim types on the grill last year then we peeled & chopped them and froze them. I used some last night in a pot of chili. Definitely better than canned!

Oh my! 32 varieties of tomatoes? That is a lot...although one can never have too many tomatoes. We're planting about a dozen varieties this year, all heirlooms except for our Sungold. I'm really crossing my fingers for an excellent harvest this year. We haven't tried artichokes yet, although by all accounts they do quite well here. I'll be interested to see how yours turn out, and your eggplant too. I'm a huge fan of peppers, especially the Poblanos and Anaheims. Good luck with your 2010 growing season!

Thanks Noelle. I think it is amazing that we are starting to come around full circle with our food production. Eating local used to be the ONLY way, before production became centralized & mono-cropped on megafarms. So what seems like a new idea is really an old one.

Isn't it a somewhat new feeling to be on the leading edge of sustainability way before it was cool? I do admire that you grow your own food and are an inspiration to others to do the same. I wish great growing for you this season with your new varieties :^)

That's good to hear - I will definitely plant more than one then!My Italian is a little rusty but I'm sure it's the same pepper. I've seen it spelled different ways. Same thing with the Violette eggplant, some places it's spelled Violetta D'Firenze.

Quadrato D'Asti Rosso was my favorite sweet pepper last year, although my seed packet had the name Quadrato Rosso D’Asti...I assume they are one and the same. Huge, thick walled, bright red, very sweet, I had four plants last year, and will at least double that amount this year and probably just skip the green bells.
