Macro Monday: Be-Jeweled

I took these photos of Orange Jewelweed on a fall trip to Brown County (Indiana) State Park. My wife and I went on a guided wildflower walk there, led by a park naturalist. It was a wonderful and very informative two hour walk that opened our eyes to the many native wildflowers in our own backyard.

This last photo is not a closeup, but illustrates how Jewelweed is often growing in the same area as poison ivy. The juice from the stems of Jewelweed has long been used to treat the rash from poison ivy and other irritant plants.

Perfect – bejewelled jewel weed! And that first picture is wonderful, with those water droplets lined up and sparkling! Great shots!

  5. Aren’t wildflowers so beautiful with their varied shapes and colors? The Orange Jewelweed is so unusual with it’s shape. I love the vibrant colors.

Gorgeous photos. Brown County Indiana is one of my favorite places. I grew up in Indiana and a trip to Brown County was a fall favorite. Some of my ancestors settled in Spencer, Indiana.
